Chiropractic is a health care profession that offers an improvement in the neuro-musculoskeletal system that has been scientifically shown to provide deep-rooted neurological and systemic changes for the positive.
As chiropractors know, most pain syndromes are chronic strain of bones, muscles, ligaments, fascia or tendons. There may also be referred pain from the organs, glands and peripheral and central nervous systems.
Patients leave our clinic daily saying they should’ve started their treatment earlier in their lives. The feedback is astounding. Aligning the spine is much more than setting a bone into its correct neurological relationship to another bone at the joint.

One method of self protection is the withdrawal reflex, which occurs when a person stands on a tack or when they put their hand on a hot stove. The flexor muscles pull the injured body part towards the centre of the body. Ultimately, this protection movement, if left unhindered or potentially even untreated, will pull the body into the well-known foetal position. The foetal position is the ‘opposite’ of the ‘elation’ position, with the arms outstretched in a posture of openness and happiness.
Most of the time, chiropractors are correcting patients out of this uncomfortable torsion (compensation) they have created to protect their bodies, to care for their daily responsibilities. This position is called compensation.
Once a person is free of compensating and the skeleton is realigned, the muscles relax instantly, and there is a noticeable improvement in the intensity of their pain. Obviously, this is in cases where a person is struggling with this issue in particular.
The withdrawal reflex is a natural protective response, such as pulling away from a hot stove or sharp object. Over time, this reflex can draw the body into a closed, foetal-like posture—the opposite of an open, relaxed position. To continue daily activities, the nervous system often maintains this protective torsion, known as compensation.
Compensation is driven by the central nervous system, even if it causes pain elsewhere. This can lead to muscle tension, weakness, poor posture, altered breathing, tendonitis, and long-term joint stress. The muscles themselves are not the problem; they are responding to signals from the brain.
When the primary skeletal issue is corrected, the nervous system responds immediately, releasing muscle tension and reducing pain. Chiropractic adjustments restore normal joint movement and provide essential feedback to the CNS, allowing the body to function without compensation. Treating the primary issue prevents further deterioration and supports lasting improvement.

If you’re experiencing ongoing pain, tension, or postural changes, don’t ignore your body’s protective signals. Address the root cause before compensation becomes long-term damage.
