Belper Chiropratic Centre

Dr Stav Mihaletos, D.C.

Doctor of Chiropractic

Dr Stav Mihaletos is the owner and principal chiropractor at Belper Chiropractic Centre, where he has lived and practised since 2012.

Born in Pretoria, South Africa, and raised between Mozambique and South Africa, Dr Stav is of Greek descent and now lives permanently in Derbyshire, UK.

From an early age, Dr Stav immersed himself in the study of health, movement and human potential. Over the course of his life, he has explored and refined a broad range of health disciplines, integrating them into what he describes as his professional “toolbox” - a combination of structural precision, neurological awareness, lifestyle and mind-body insight.

Gi Gong Benefits

Early Foundations: Movement and Discipline

Dr Stav’s early years were shaped by the study of Asian martial arts and Qi Gong (Chi Gung). For over 40 years, he has practised and refined this discipline - a system of coordinated movement, breath and focused awareness designed to cultivate strength, coordination and internal balance.

He has developed his Qi Gong practice into a practical rehabilitation and conditioning approach suitable for both patients and the wider public. He teaches locally in Belper and incorporates aspects of this work into his rehabilitation programmes where appropriate. Read more about Soul Fire Qi Gong here.

Alongside this, his interests have included meditation, ashtanga yoga and contemplative traditions from both Eastern and Western philosophy. These studies have informed his understanding of mind–body interaction, discipline and personal development - principles that underpin his approach to health.

Beyond Pain Relief

Most people consult Dr Stav because they are in pain. Providing relief and restoring function is therefore his immediate priority.

In his experience, pain is often a signal - a surface expression of deeper mechanical imbalance or long-standing stress patterns within the body. Addressing this is usually straightforward with careful assessment and appropriate chiropractic treatment.

However, Dr Stav believes that many contemporary health complaints - including musculoskeletal pain - are influenced by modern lifestyle patterns: postural stress, chronic stress, stress due to daily exposure to toxins in our immediate environment, inactivity, inflammatory dietary habits, poor sleep and repetitive strain.

While chiropractic care addresses structural dysfunction, he emphasises that lifestyle patterns often determine whether problems return. He encourages patients to adopt sustainable habits around movement, nutrition, sleep and stress management. In many cases, relatively simple adjustments to daily routines can significantly improve long-term wellbeing.

For Dr Stav, the more meaningful question is:

How healthy and strong does this individual wish to be?

While pain relief may be the starting point, his deeper interest lies in health, longevity and resilience. He believes that treatment can initiate change - but lasting health depends on what a person chooses to do consistently for themselves.

“The health criteria,” he says, “is what the individual is willing to commit to in order to maintain and improve their own vitality.”

Philosophy of Practice

Dr Stav combines precise chiropractic adjustments with movement rehabilitation and practical lifestyle guidance with an overall view of balancing the mind-body connection.

His goal is not merely to “treat pain”, but to help patients build a stronger, more resilient foundation from which to live and work.

He views health not as the absence of symptoms, but as the presence of strength, adaptability and functional capacity.
